Sharing My Sabbath: Canceled Plans and a Walk in the Park

February 25, 2019

Upon Waking
I woke at 4am, confident I’d go right back to sleep. 3 hours later . . .  not so much, but technically, I did sleep “in” so there. If I’m in bed, eyes closed, it counts.
Churchin’
Paster Keith from DC Metro preached on walking the high road. A good old, “the highway to hell is wide, heaven narrow” message. It’s been some time since I heard from Keith, and as always his message rang true. In a world of shortcuts, endless productivity “hacks” and efficiencies, one wonders where else we are taking the easy route. I love messages that make you soul search, but not make you too guilty. You know? I need some light at the end of the tunnel to know I can make changes and it is possible. Keith is my man for that.

Lunchin’
I had the misfortune of watching a sick baby from the latter part of last week until this past Sunday. So let’s say I was looking for a break. Well, a break was nowhere to be found. I was supposed to have a date with the hubby, but we canceled on account of le sick bae. Insult to injury, we had tickets to a Cap’s game, which went unused. I was inordinately pissed off about this, but it was also nobody’s fault. It took some time to rally, so I went on a walk and talked to my sister. It helped.
Relaxin’
Everyone napped, which possibly prevented us from teetering wholesale into chaos.
End of Days
Dinner was popcorn for me, and the hubs proved equally easy to please (smart man). Minimal clean up/housework meant we could watch the Incredibles 2 and relax together.

Hi/Low
I wish I didn’t let my emotions get the best of me. Canceled plans is part of life, and a cornerstone of motherhood. They are also no one’s fault.  I need to get better on rolling with the punches instead of punching myself out. But I did rally, and we enjoyed nice weather at the park. I also ran into a friend there, and we got the chat. She gave me a big hug when she heard about the Caps tickets. You know what’s better than Caps tickets? A good friend.
